Fifty-five percent of lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (LGBT) people care greatly about the environment, compared to just one-third of heterosexuals, according to a Harris online poll conducted in November and reported on the E2 Wire blog of The Hill. YBCA, a San Francisco-based contemporary arts center offering visual arts, performing arts and film and media exhibitions, has outdone itself. YBCA has consistently provided its audience with creative, eccentric, dynamic experiential programming, but now, it’s going beyond that. It’s new program, YBCA:YOU is an individualized “self-curated approach to art”, in which the participant (at no charge) learn the best way to better enhance her experience at YBCA. Each aesthete sits down with an “art-fitness coach” and maps out , based on her goals, interests, inspirations, personal schedule, etc, a plan for which programs, events, exhibitions that she will most enjoy and “help develop [her] goals” as an art-lover and learner.
I am tickled pink to be one of the first participants in the pilot program. It’s an ingenious / whowouldathunkit idea- providing your audience with the tools and resources to get more out of your institutions programs and events. And, both parties benefit- the museum will now have a bevy of enthusiastic, dedicated, and plugged in audience members, from which to gather feedback from. With this consistent feedback YBCA will be in a more informed position to create more engaging programs that better serve its community.
Thumbs up.
I’m interested in hearing what your thoughts are. What would be most appealing to you? How would you define your goals when it comes to art (or museum) experiences?
